In 2010 we added a chicken coop to our farm. We started with a few laying hens and have expanded each year since. In 2011 we added a chicken tractor so we could raise pastured meat birds.

Our girls have taken chickens to show at the county fair for a few years and have consistently done very well, including several Champion Breed and Grand Champion Market Chicken awards

Considerations:

• Whole bird purchase only
• Chicken butchered at ~ 9 weeks – expected weights between 7 and 8 pounds
• Butchering
  • We plan butcher dates for June and September
  • Done on farm at a local Amish (or you can take to butcher of your choice)
  • You pay butcher cost direct to Amish (approx. $2 per bird)
