Pork
We started raising a few pigs in 2012. We keep them in an open air pen. They have access to fresh water and feed daily. We make sure the pigs get plenty of exercise so they are lean and tender.
Our girls take our pigs to the fair and have consistently received blue ribbon in the carcass contest. Our customers have raved at how good the pork tasted, backing up the carcass placements.
Pork purchase considerations (whole or half purchases):
- Freezer space: The size of a finished pig can vary, however, allow for up to 3 cubic feet for a half hog.
- Pigs are butchered locally at State or USDA inspected facilities.
- Pork can be easily packaged to accommodate the size of your family.
- All meat is frozen at the butcher with the type of cut labeled on the packaging.
- Processing costs are paid directly to the butcher
- The price is based on the hanging weight of the pig (not the live or final packaged weight). Example of whole hog
- Live weight – 250-300 lb
- Hanging weight – 180-216 lb
- Packaged weight – 144-175 lb (varies based on cuts selected/amount of bone in package)
